Mike Young Production to produces new series The Mighty Boltz and Chloe's Closet.
Mike Young Productions, the LA- and UK-based animation studio behind Jakers and Growing Up Creepie, is working on a major new CGI series for tweens and a fresh preschool property. The Mighty Boltz (26x30') is being produced in 3D CGI and follows the adventures of teenage sports team in the future.
The story of the comedy-action series (left) is that Earth has entered into a treaty with other planets under which disputes are settled with sporting games. But Earth has been the loser for several years until the Mighty Boltz come along.
The team comprises five 16-year-olds who were born in hospitals that were hit by a mysterious bolt of energy. They are up against a Rupert Murdoch-type character, who controls all media and wants his own team to succeed.
Speaking to C21, Mike Young said: "Several networks have already taken this up and there will be whole episodes available at Mipcom Junior." The series is being coproduced with KiKa (Germany), Animania (US) and Telegael (Ireland) for delivery in September 2008.
In addition, preschool series Chloe's Closet (52x11') is in development at MYP's studio in Wales. "It is based on our grand-daughter, who has a security blanket named Lovely Carrot," added Young. "The basic concept is similar to Mr Benn in that when Chloe opens her closet she finds a costume and is taken off on an adventure."
Production on the Flash-animated series starts in late May and is being coproduced with KiKa (Germany) and Telegael (Ireland) for delivery in September 2008. MYP has applied for additional public funding from the Welsh Assembly.
Young added that a new CGI version of classic toon Superted is also in the pipeline but is still in the "embryonic" phase as he continues to untangle the rights to the property, made nearly 25 years ago. Abbey Home Entertainment owns the majority stake in the show.
